I’ve been know to fall in love with companies and be loyal to brands/services/products. I own a small business so I’m always happy to learn more about the people behind the brand (hello…my podcast!) I feel a sense of loyalty to companies that are honest with me and treat me as an individual customer as opposed to a number. I don’t mind if they have some mix ups as long as they treat me honestly and fairly. When they do I love being matchmaker and thinking of more people these brands would be perfect for.
Convert kit is one of those brands. I had mailchimp for years with no complaints. When I decided to start a podcast, I knew I would have to find something that had more capabilities than mailchimp if I wanted to be able to figure out who wanted to read WHAT on my email list. It’s also one of the most asked questions I get, besides questions about how to start a podcast.
I switched to Convert Kit in January 2016, so exactly a year ago at the time I’m writing this. At the time I basically had a non-existent email list (a few hundred people). I hadn’t emailed anyone in months (maybe longer) because I had taken a….very long blogging break after having my second daughter. I knew I needed to start dividing my list between Blissful Eats customers, people who wanted to hear about my personal life and those that were interested in business posts.Interested in Convert Kit? Convertkit was very new and small when I started. It’s been amazing to watch and be a part of their growth. Not to get sappy, because I don’t personally know them (and while I’m an affiliate, I’m also a paying customer!) but even through some growing pains they had, they were ALWAYS at their best with customer service (in my experience!). They are honest, very responsive, helpful and have been transparent about their growth. I really admire and want to support a company like that.
So when people ask me why I stick with Convert Kit it’s because they help me run my business like a…business and have always been honest, responsive and helpful!
Now, why did I choose them in the first place? The functionality!
Pros of Convert Kit:
- You can segment your list
- Less likely to go to spam
- Easily tag your readers + buyers
- Easily deliver freebies/opt-ins
- Create sequences and you can deliver free or paid for email courses
- Facebook group that is VERY helpful
- Support is very responsive
- Free landing pages
- Affiliate program
- It only counts email addresses once, so even if people are signed up for multiple forms/opt-ins/programs you only are charged for them once!
Cons of Convert Kit
- Not free ($29 for up to $1000 subscribers)
- a TEEENNYYYYYY tiny learning curve to learn how to use it.
How to Get Started:
If you have another email provider, then you just have to open an account and upload your CSV of your list. It’s that easy.
How To Segment Your List
PRO-TIP: It doesn’t matter the size of your list, if you are trying to run as a business, you need to be using a professional email provider.
First you can start by just asking them what they want to read about, whether it’s your recipes, workouts, free trainings or whatever you had to offer! You can set up an automation in convert kit, so when they click on a link, it will automatically tag them as wanting to read about that topic.
The biggest thing you can do with your email list is to engage with them and treat them like your community. Find out what they love and what they want to read about…and send it to them. To get more ideas download my free workbook below!
Other ways to use Convert Kit
Really see what resonates with your audience! First…ask them what they want. (Download the workbook to give you more ideas on what to send!) After you’ve asked start to deliver different opt-ins and freebies and see what works! You can set up different email sequences for different opt-ins…and when you’re feeling more advanced and fancy you can set up simple funnels to offer your products/programs/services to your readers. (Side note: if this is something you want help with…reach out to me!)
Making the Most of Convert Kit
I have a lot of freebies/opt-ins and it’s very easy to manage through Convert Kit, through their forms + sequences. You do have to spend some time learning about it, but once you do, it isn’t hard to use at all!
I have two 30 day programs (30 Days to Finding Your Niche and 30 Days to a Profitable Product) that I run completely through Convert Kit. People can sign up through leadpages/sam cart and it is connected right to Convert Kit. They start getting an email a day right away and get them for 30 days.
You can do the same with free or paying programs. Free challenges are great lead generators and it’s very easy to do this with Convert Kit.
Note: This was not a sponsored post. I have had a lot of success growing my email list using Convert Kit and get a lot of questions about it, so I wrote this in response to them! This post does contain my affiliate link and you get a free month upon sign up!
Second disclaimer: If you don’t make ANY money off your blog or business and you don’t see any money coming in, in the foreseeable future, a free mail service will work until you bring in income to pay for this!
